Betty Carter, age 87, passed away at home on Thursday, October 18, 2018. She was born April 15, 1931 to Ella Mae and Jack Washington. Born at University Hospital, Betty attended Columbus Public Schools and lived most of her life on the Eastside of Columbus. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ at Refuge Baptist Church. Later in life Betty became a member of Mt. Period Baptist Church. As a hardworking valued employee, Betty worked at the Burger Boy, Sheraton Hotel, and University Hospital as a housekeeper.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Jean Wimsatt, husband Joseph Carter Sr., and son James Carter. She is survived by her loving children Barbara (Garlin) Calloway, Josephine Bailey, Joseph (Tina) Carter, and Sherry Carter. She will forever be remembered as “Momma” and/or “Nanan” to her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Thank you to the family members and friends, who visited, prayed and took the time to comfort Betty during her time of need, and Hospice of Columbus and Riverside Hospital for providing exceptional health and home care.
Family will receive friends Friday, October 26, 2018, 6:00pm until time of service at 7:00pm at Mt. Period Missionary Baptist Church, 462 Kimball Place, Cols, OH 43205.
