Obituary

Elder Gene A. Smith Sr., age 80, of Columbus Ohio, departed this life on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Gene was born March 15, 1939 in Eureka, West Virginia to Fletcher and Rebecca Smith. After graduating high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and there he received an honorable discharge. Gene was truly a man after God’s own heart. He loved going to church. He enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. He was a firm believer of laughter healed the soul. “Geno” was preceded in death by his parents Fletcher and Rebecca Smith, his sister Arlene Lee, and brother William Smith.

Elder Gene is survived by his brother and sister Delores A. Mills; James A. Smith (Columbus, Ohio), six children Cynthia Smith, Tracy Smith, Cynethia Smith, Stacy Smith (Baltimore, MD), Gene A. Smith Jr. (Gabriella) (Seattle, WA) and Sean Smith (Columbus, Ohio); 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Family will receive friends Monday, December 30, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Grace New Covenant Worship Center, 1643 Aberdeen Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43211. Interment Evergreen Burial Park.
