Hamp Lofton Obituary

The life and legacy of our dear and precious, husband & father, Hamp Lofton; The earth rejoiced and the sun shined brighter, on October 4, 1933 when the Lord Jesus allowed our father to be born to Champ Lofton and Willie Mae Thomas. On Sunday, July 21, 2019, the sun set when the Lord chose to call him from labor to reward.

Hamp’s early life involved employment with Graham Ford, Chet Baker Construction Company and Manheim (Auto Auction).

He was united in holy matrimony to Betty Jean Lofton for 64 years and five children were blessed into their lives which brought joy and love, until his departure to his eternal rest.

He loved cutting grass and landscaping with his wife. He had a love for the lawn mower. He loved to sing, be around family and tell jokes, but most of all he loved spending time with his wife. He was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather and friend. His favorite saying was “check’s in the mail”.

Hamp Lofton was a member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church since 1969.

Preceded in death by father and mother, one sister Barbara Jean Harris, son Larry Jacobs, granddaughter Martina Lofton and grandson Michael Charles Allen.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his loving wife Betty Jean Lofton; sister, Lucille (Timothy) Walker; loving children, Linda (Ronald) Milner, Pauline (Charles) Alston, Dorothy (Carleton) Neighbors, Debra (Joseph) Clark, Tracy (Leon) Brihm; sister-in-laws, Ruby (Neotis), Shepherd, Carolyn Williams, Dorothy Alexander, Margaret (Marvin) Brantley and Dianne Ayers; eight grandchildren, eight bonus grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
