Janet Lee Butler was born on April 28, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Hugh E. Butler and Mamie Butler. She departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Grant Medical Center.
Janet attended Ohio Avenue Elementary and Franklin Junior High School. She graduated from East High School in 1964.
Janet made awesome cakes! Her brother David helped deliver cakes to venues such as Scioto Downs, the Columbus Dispatch and throughout the community.Janet retired from the United States Post Office, as a Mail Handler, after thirty-five years of Honorable service.
Janet loved spending time with family and friends. Many weddings, family parties and joyous events were held at her house. All the nieces, nephews, cousins and neighborhood children looked forward to making special cookies, candy and that delicious, mouth watering “monkey bread”, during the Christmas holidays.
Janet attended Mt. Olivet Baptist Church as a child. She later attended Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith as a faithful member for over forty years. Janet was a devoted and faithful member of Victorious Life Christian Center for approximately thirteen years! Janet was affectionately called “Mother Janet” by the members of the church. She taught Sunday School and Bible Study. Janet was the “hospitality” committee. She made follow-up calls to new members. She also made phone calls and sent cards and flowers to the sick and bereaved members of the church.
Preceded in death by her parents, Hugh E. Butler, Sr. and Mamie Tate Butler, brother Hugh Butler Jr., sisters, Charlotte Jones, Beverly Butler-Burnam, Joyce Brown and Mamie Bennett-Gail. She leaves to cherish her memory, brothers, William (Sheila) Butler and David (Carolyn) Butler. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special friends Jane Anthony, Sarah Haynes and Thelma Neal.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 26, 2019 from 10am until time of service at 11am at Victorious Life Christian Center, 1875 Tamarack Circle North, 43229.
