Evangelist Lily Christine Wimbley Smith

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Lily was born in Columbus, Ohio August 12, 1932 to the late Elve Johnson and Hattie Carter Johnson. She departed this life on December 31, 2019 at the Wexner Heritage Village. She was educated in Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Central High. She furthered her education and graduated from Franklin University and taught at Aenon Bible College. She was employed at Ashland Chemical.

In 1956 she was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost at Washington and Donaldson under the pastorate of the late Bishop Karl Smith. Lily was committed to serving the Lord in every aspect. She wrote several plays, one known as the Rapture by her and Clifford Givens and Alpha and Omega. Lily was a part of the Nurses Guild, CCAF Nurses, ODC Health Professional – vice and president. PAW Health Professional – Vice president in 1989 and president from 1998 to 2000. Christian Adult conference for over 30 years. She was Sunday School teacher of class #25. She sang in the Young Adult and Senior Choir. She loved Nursing. She was employed as a LPN at Children's and Riverside (White Cross) Hospitals. She assisted with open heart surgery at John Hopkins (Detroit, Michigan) and The Ohio State University Hospital. She played baseball for Ashland Chemical where she loved to pitch and yes they went to the play-offs. She played semipro basketball while enlisted with the United States Air Force.  

Lily was a Chaplain at OSU hospital and volunteered at the Veteran's Administration. Lily not only loved church work and her career but she also was a good mother and grandmother. She loved traveling and dressing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Elve and Hattie Johnson, brothers, Elve Johnson Jr. and Willie George Sr., sister, Ann Lou Howie, husbands Irving Wimbley and Leroy Smith; daughter, Joyce Holmes. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; daughter, Donetta Boone, two grandsons, Daniel (Tamara) Boone, Derek (Jennifer) Boone, 7 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, niece, Julie (Howard - deceased) Fairley, special niece, Kathy Bolden, special family and friends, Yvonne Wimbley, Paulette Malone, Gloria Nappier, Naomi Sessley, Berdie Bolden, Jackie Hereford, Vanessa Bryant and a host of family, friends and church family.

Family will receive friends Monday, January 13. 2020 from 5:30 pm until time of service at 6:30 pm at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43219. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
