Mary Virginia Philpott, known to family and friends as “Jenny” was born on April 16, 1922, in Cedartown, Georgia. Early in life she migrated to Columbus, Ohio with her family. She gradated from Columbus East High School in 1939 and attended The Ohio State University. Following her employment with the State of Ohio, she worked and retired from Columbus Public School System as long-time secretary at Trevitt Elementary School. Virginia was a charter member of the Trinity Baptist Church where served as membership clerk and in several ministries across the years.
Jenny joined the heavenly host during the early morning of November 30, 2019 at the age of 97. She is preceded in death by husband, James H. Philpott; parents, Daniel and Anna Ragland; and son, James (Beanie) Philpott. She is survived by daughter, Jacqueline Cason; grandchildren, Ted (Jennifer) Thomas, Therese (Don) Elliott, Locia Bell; along with great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
The family sincerely appreciates calls, prayers, and visits from the families of Trinity Baptist Church St. Dominic Catholic Church and First Baptist Church. Blessings to caregivers, Cynthia Davis, Faye Stigger, and Sharon Keels and to those who provided transportation to doctor’s appointments. Special thanks to grandchildren who provided extra love, assistance and support throughout “Miss Jenny’s” illness. God grant a special blessing to each of you. We are also grateful to the Echo Manor Nursing Facility and Mt. Carmel Hospice for their care and compassionate support.
Family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2019 from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church, 461 St. Clair Avenue, Cols, OH 43203. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery.
