Norma Pierson Obituary

Norma Jean Freeman Pierson was born August 16, 1942 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She was the second of nine children born to the late James H. Freeman, Sr. and Almenia Miller Freeman.  Norma departed this life peacefully December 24, 2018, at home with her husband by her side.

Norma accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at Calvary Third Baptist Church by the late Rev. S. P. Nelson.  She married Lionell Pierson, October 23, 1965 and was his bride for 53 years and 2 months.  Born to this union were two daughters Yvette Marie and Norma Lynell “Lynn”.

Norma was educated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and graduated from Grambling College in 1965.  She moved to several states and European countries where her husband was stationed. Norma was a volunteer and an Educational Aide in the Columbus Public School System while her daughters were students.  She was very creative and enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, arts & crafts, puzzles, pictures and collages.  She never met a stranger and was “Mom” and “Grandma” to many.

Norma joined Southfield Community Missionary Baptist Church in 1977 and served faithfully until her death.  She was active in several ministries including the Senior and Sanctuary Choirs where she was the president for many years.  She served as a Deaconess and recently earned her appointed position as a Church Mother after years of dedication, study, worship and prayer.
