Richard Cromwell, 91, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Continuing Health Care of Gahanna, Ohio. He was born on January 15, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Wesley Sr. and Susie (Christie) Cromwell.
Richard enlisted in the United States Army-Air Force (before the split in September 18, 1947). He traveled the world in the military. Richard served three years and 1 month and received an Honorable Discharge.
Returning home from military service he obtained employment with Columbus City Schools and the United States Postal Service.
Richard married Lillia to that union Robert was born. Later after the death of Lillia, Richard remarried the Ella Francis Woodson. They were married 26 years and adopted Richard Cromwell – Woodson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Sr. and Susie (Christie) Cromwell; his son, Robert; sisters, Elizabeth Cromwell, Alice Taylor and Anna Mae Dungey; brothers, William, Wesley Jr. and Harold Cromwell.
He leaves to cherish the Cromwell’s memories, two sisters in law, Lorraine and Roseann Cromwell; one brother in law, Charles Fields, Sr.; grandchildren, Robert, Jeffery and Lori Cromwell; 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
One of Richard’s favorite songs he would sing as he would walk up and down the halls was “Walk Around Heaven.” The nurse told me when they were in his room they would tune that song on their phone and place it beside his head. They stated Richard would tap his feet, raise his hand, move his head and even tried to sing, although you couldn’t hear or make out the sounds. But he was praising God.
Richard had told me that Mom would tell him come on Richard it’s time to pray. He would say Mom’s prayer kept me.
Yes, Richard you were the last one born and the last one leaving, Yes, God’s been good to you. Yes, we all will miss, Grandfather Richard, Uncle Richard and Cousin Richard.
Family will receive friends Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 9:00am until time of service at 10:00am at White's Chapel. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery.
