Vera Holtz

Vera Maxine Holtz (Byard) passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at her home at 5:43pm. Vera was known by her many friends as Maxine. Born, December 16, 1930, Vera was raised in Bluefield West Virginia by her late parents Milton Byard Sr. and Nona (Davis) Byard. She graduated from Bluefield State College with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. She also held a Library of Science degree. Vera retired from the Columbus Metropolitan Library System. She was a proud member of the Bluefield State College Alumni Club and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Vera loved to sing she was a member of Quire a professional eight-member group under the direction of Ms. Olivia Cannaday. Vera loved serving God and her Centenary United Methodist Church which she was a faithful member for 50 years. She was faithful in pouring into her children Mildred, Leroy and Carrie the love of God.

She is preceded in death by late husband William L. Holtz, Sr., one sister, and four brothers. She is survived by sister, Lucille Wyrick of Denver, Colorado, children Mildred Cook, William (Leroy) Holtz Jr., and Carrie Mitchell (Alan). As well as, 9 grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, devoted friend Emmanuel Davidson, and a host of friends and family. 

Family will receive friends Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am at Centenary United Methodist Church 2048 Denune Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43211.
