Verna Mae Bozeman was born January 10, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Edward and Lena Jones Payne. Verna completed her earthly assignment and went home to be with the Lord on January 14th, 2020 at the age of 94.
Meeting as teenagers, Verna became a loving and devoted wife to husband Carl L. Bozeman for 74 years.
Verna received her education in Columbus, Ohio by graduating from East High School. After high school she attended The Ohio State University where she became a member of the Elipson chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. Verna completed her studies and graduated from Bliss Business School. Starting her career at DCSC, she later worked for the Ohio Society for Crippled Children and retired in her career as an executive secretary with SCOA.
Verna was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church and there she was faithful to all of her ministries. She was a prominent member of the Royal Aids, Ushering Board, a Clerk of the Church, and regular Sunday school member. She also worked alongside her husband with the Recreational Committee.
Verna enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, cross-stitch, and most of all pouring love into her family.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, brother Melvin and daughter Marilynn Ann.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Carl, daughter Sylvia, grandchildren Brian, Monica, Jason (Lisa), and 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Family will receive friends Friday, January 24, 2020 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH 43203. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
