Alan Medley Obituary

Family will have a Graveside service on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery Chapel, 115 N. Spring Grove St. Medina, OH 44256.

Alan Theodore Medley, 86, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2024. 

He was born August 26, 1937 to the union of Henry Preston Medley and Lucia Medley in Medina Ohio, the seventh of seven children. After graduating from Medina High School, he went to Santa Ana College, where he played football. He later transferred to Los Angeles College, where he also played football. Soon after, Alan was drafted into the American Football League (AFL) (name later changed to the national football league) (NFL), where he played for the Denver Broncos in the mid 60s. 

Upon leaving the Denver Broncos, Alan moved to Redmond, Washington. There he met the mother of his son, Matthew. He lived there for over 50 years and worked for the state of Washington Department of Employment Security.

Alan spent many years as a woman’s softball coach. He was sought after by players who lived both in the United States and other countries. His coaching skills, athleticism, and easy-going manner, won him and his teams many awards, including the national championship. He was inducted into the Washington State Softball Hall of Fame.

Alan Was a music lover, especially jazz. He was a gifted piano player, though his preference was the organ.

Alan was lovingly known by his family as Al, Uncle Alan, and “Big Al” by his big sister Gladys, a.k.a. Boots.

Alan is proceeded in death by his parents Henry and Lucia Medley, grandmother Betty , brothers, Carl, William, Matthew, and sisters Ethel, and Virginia.

Alan is survived by his son, Matthew Mueller, Sister Gladys Henderson, and many nieces and nephews.

Alan will be missed by a host of extended family members and friends who knew him and loved him. His quiet demeanor, sense of humor and love for his family will be remembered.
