Barbara R Walker

Deaconess Barbara R. Walker, 79, sunrise August 17, 1940, on October 5, 2019 she quietly walked through the gates of Heaven to be with the Lord. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to her parents Orville L. Walker and Idella D. Pettway. Barbara graduated from East High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. Upon graduating she went to work at The Maramor, then Westinghouse Electric, eventually working at General Motors Corporation which later became Delphi Automotive; she worked there close to 30 years until retirement January 1, 2006. While employed she was a member of Local 969 UAW.

Barbara was a loving mother of three children, Tia, Tera, Roger (Tracy). At an early age she gave her life to Christ at the New Salem Baptist Church. Barbara was one of the oldest members at New Salem before she transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father. While at New Salem she served in many organizations throughout the church including; Deaconess Board, Mass Choir member, hospitality and various functions in the church.

Barbara was an avid sports fan of Football & Basketball. She enjoyed going to local high school athletics in the area. Her favorite teams were The Ohio State University Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and East High School Tigers. She enjoyed traveling with her social groups “Friends from the hood” and the Seasoned Citizens of New Salem. She loved being with her Thursday care group “The Survivors”. She was always excited to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a smile that could light up a room.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 11:00am until time of service at 12:00pm at New Salem Baptist Church, 2956 Cleveland Ave, Columbus, OH 43224.
