Benjamin Harris, affectionately known as “Benny” passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born to the late Pastor Clarence and Leila (Seabrooks) Harris on May 1, 1939 in Columbus Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen Harris whom he shared a beautiful union with for 51 years, son Benjamin Harris Jr, daughter Sherry Lynn Lewis, brothers Ozell Harris & Clarence Harris, sisters, Willa “Mae” Cochran, Anna “Louise” Jenkins & Rose Lee Cliff.
He attended Columbus Public Schools and was formerly employed at the Ohio Malleable Iron Company for a number of years, until his employment with Franklin County Engineer's where he retired after 20+ years of service.
He enjoyed spending time with family. One of his greatest pastimes was watching sports and enjoying his TV time. He was well dressed and had shoes for every occasion. He had a sense of humor that would always keep you laughing. ("Not in this Shirt")
His family is a big as his heart was for them, those who remain to cherish his memory, son Shawn (Carmen) Harris, daughters Dianna Harris, Denise Dyer, Danielle Harris, sisters Delores Hackett & Christine Hopkins, grandchildren Latoya (Dwann) Anderson, Latia Ogden, Ashley Ramos, Micah & Marcus Dyer, Jamarr Anthony, Ayanna, Justus, In’yah & Raynah Harris, La’Don Archie, Da’nasha Harris, great-grandchildren Jayden Archie, Alexis Petty, Aliyah Ince, Dwann Anderson, Kamya & Kamara Grooms, Imonne, Jahayanna & , Breaija Brooks & Alijah Anthony, Jesiah and Jahmar Ramos, Jeremiah Scott, Zania & Dexter Jr.Josey and great-great grand-child DaShawn Howard “Jr”, special nephews Sherman Holmes and Craig Cliff, special friends, Junie Barnes, Jimmy Reeves and Mary and a host of nieces, nephews and other relative and friends.
We honor the legacy of his kind, loving and giving heart. Who loved and cherished and always thought of his family first. We will miss his candid humor and tenacity.
Family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at the Chapel of White's. Interment Evergreen Burial Park.
