Mrs. Bessie Margaret Jones Abercrombie was born in Cape May, New Jersey on November 23, 1927, to the late Clarence Bose and Emma (Major) Bose.  She departed this life peacefully, Tuesday August 4, 2020 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital.

The youngest of 12 children, Bessie graduated from Cape May High School in 1945.  Bessie met her first husband Omer Jones (Deceased) of the U.S. Navy at the United Service Organization (USO) on the Cape May Naval Base in 1944.  Soon after Bessie’s graduation in 1945, they were married and to this union they had one son, Omer Richard Jones (Deceased).  She followed Omer to Cleveland Ohio where they lived for four years. They then settled in Columbus, Ohio in 1951. She married Edward Abercrombie (Deceased) on January 26, 1990. 

Bessie Began her career working for the State of Ohio in 1951 as a procurement clerk.  She was the first black to work in that office.  She later went on to work for the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) for 28 years as a Contract Specialist, retiring in 1989 with 28 years of service serving her country as a federal employee.

She was a member of the old Defense Supply Center Columbus Retirement Club and a member of Whose Who of Plain City Ohio.  She was a member of the Union Grove Baptist Church, and a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, both in Columbus, Ohio.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Albert Bose, John Bose, Charles Bose, Joe Bose, Robert Bose and Martin Bose; five sisters, Sarah Edgecombe, Dorothy Wise, Anna Mae Bose, Florence Henry and Laura Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, her dear cousin Mrs. Mary Washington of Plain City, Ohio, her dear friends. Mr. Tom Jones & Family of Plain City, Ohio, two step daughters/sons and a host of family and friends.
