It began in 1940, at Reeb Hosack Baptist Church, under the direction of Pastor H.H. Tiggs. At fifteen Betty J. King began going into the prisons with her church choir with the opportunity she began singing as a soloist. The prophecy through Pastor Tiggs that prison ministry would be her call, which in turn led to an undying passion for prison ministry.
In 1943, Betty J. DaCons, had a vision where the Lord led her to the scripture “For out of prison He cometh.” Ecclesiastes 4:14. From this The Wise Men and Women of the Word Prison Ministry was born. That has been over 65 yearx ago. It is with great joy that she humbly accepted her call of God to minister to prisoners which she made this her life mission. Since then Mother Betty J. DaCons has worked tirelessly with her team of ministers in both the male and female prison in Ohio.
Mother DaCons has been honored by the General Assembly of The Ohio State Senate and recognized as one of Ohio’s finest citizen for her tremendous reward of service and ministry achievements.
Mother Betty J. DaCons, attended Rehoboth Temple Church of Christ. Served with the missionary and nurses. Song with the Temple Airs Church Choir. She supervised the Wednesday feeding programs, help establish the church (Rehoboth Nurses) and other church nurses throughout the city of Columbus.
Mother Betty J. DaCons is proceeded in death by parents, Rev. John and Cora King. Husband, William J. T. DaCons, daughter Zeline M. Kelly and foster son Vernon (Mr) Cauthon, and sister Mildred Wright. She is survived by sister Margaret Barron. Daughters, Gena, Gwendolyn (Eugene) Taylor, Betty DaCons, sons, William (Margaret), and Carlton DaCons. Twelve grandchildren, great grandchildrens. Host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
