Calling Hours (only 10 at a time), Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at White's Funeral Home Chapel. Private Family Service (50 maximum) at 11:15 a.m., tickets are required for entry. Interment Field of Honor, 300 Winchester Cemetery Road, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. The family will receive flowers at the funeral home. Due to COVID, there will be no repast.
Betty J. Oakes, 88, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Kobacker House. Betty was born September 24, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio.
She was employed by Elders Choice for many years prior to her retirement. She loved bowling, making blankets, baking, traveling, and spending time with family playing games.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Oakes, Sr.; parents Addison Sr. and Lucille (Tate) McNeal; sisters Eleanor (William) Reese, Minnie (Cleveland) Vance, Geraldine (David) Goings, Kathryn McNeal, Mamie (Edward) Barksdale, Mary (Ervin) Mitchell, Ada McNeal, Addison McNeal, Hr., Bernell Hairston (Children’s Father).
She leaves to cherish children Darryl Hairston, Debbie Valentine, Donna Haynes, D’Arcy Mason, Dale Hairston, Desiree Hairston, 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Stepchildren Robert Oakes Jr., Ralph Oakes and Regina (Ernest) Williams. Special nieces Fannie Holloway, Beverly Warren, Eleanor (Curly) Viney and Minnie (Marie) Mitchell. Special friends, Glenda Gilbert and Louise Hunter.
