Bonnie Brenda Alexander Jackson Thomas was born July 25th, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio from the union of Thaddeus and Ida Alexander. She was raised on the Hilltop, the west side of Columbus, Ohio. She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Central High School. Baptized at an early age she became a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church and later became a member of Mt. Vernon Avenue A.M.E. Church.
She worked many years for the State of Ohio, Bureau of Workers Compensation, and Alexander’s Busy Bee Nursery and Preschool, Inc. as the Lead Infant Teacher She attended IBM School of Technology, Ohio State School of Cosmetology and Maricopa Community College of Nursing, Phoenix, Arizona.
Brenda loved to dance. At a young age she attended Bettye Robinson School of Dance, the first Black Ballet Company in Columbus, Ohio where she received ballet lessons. Not only did she love to dance but she also loved singing. Her favorite music was Gospel, R & B, and Jazz. She joined the choir at both Hilltop United Methodist and Mt. Vernon Avenue A.M.E. Church.
During football season it was nothing to find Brenda in front of the TV every Saturday. She was a die-hard Buckeye and Cleveland Browns football fan. She loved getting together with family and friends preparing her favorite foods on those days. She also loved the TV series “In the heat of the night”. She watched it every day until she went into hospice. She wouldn’t allow anyone to touch the TV screen to watch something else until her program was off.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents: Thaddeus and Ida Alexander, husband: Larry Thomas, siblings: Thaddeus Edward Alexander, Jr and Gwendolyn Denise Bailey and niece: Jade Alexander.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her one and only devoted son Robert Keith Jackson, Siblings: Evette L. Alexander, Frederick D. (Delcenia) Alexander Senior and Keith H. Alexander, Nephews: Frederick D. Alexander, Jr, Montrell (Tosha) Bailey and Scott Alexander and Teddy (Kathleen) Ceasar and Niece: Ave (Chico) Jenkins, host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and longtime best friend Rebecca Goins Crenshaw.
