Carolyn L. Petty, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 2, 2023. She was born May 24th 1944, in North Wilkesboro, NC, to Cornelius (Neil) Morrow Adams and Mary Louise Adams. She is survived by her husband Leonard Petty, brother Michael (Valerie) Adams and sisters Cathy Adams Clayborne, Toni Adams and Reba (Eddie) Graham. She was the oldest of twelve siblings and is preceded in death by her mother and father, stepdaughter Leslie Petty, brothers Chris Adams, Cornelius Harper Adams, Hezron Adams, Russell Finley Adams, Larry Adams, Clayton Adams, and Todd Adams.
Carolyn was baptized at First Baptist in North Wilkesboro, NC was a graduate of Lincoln Heights High School and graduated with honors from Community Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, NC. After community college Carolyn then graduated Cum Laude from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She also received her master’s degree in health care administration from Central Michigan University. Carolyn worked in the healthcare field for over 34 years with 26 of those years at the Executive level in the behavioral health field at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare. There she received numerous leadership honors, awards, commendations and was an honorary member of the Lexington Who’s Who Registry of Executives. In her free time Carolyn was an accomplished amateur international ballroom dance competitor and had previously won numerous awards, trophies and dance
scholarships.
Carolyn was a champion and change agent for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and worked on many innovative clinical and administrative programs aimed at achieving quality mental health care programs. Carolyn truly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, traveling the world and seeing firsthand the beautiful God created wonders of the world. She was fierce and fabulous with a big heart filled with love, nurture, compassion and warmth.
Carolyn will truly be missed and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
