Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon AME Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43203. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
Carolyn Lorraine White was born to Allen and Catherine White on February 19, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina. Carolyn received her education through the Charleston, South Carolina public school system and completed her education in the Columbus Public Schools graduating from Central High School.
Carolyn accepted Christ at an early age and after moving to Columbus, Ohio joined Mt. Vernon Avenue African Methodist Episcopal Church, where was a faithful and active member for over 40 years. Carolyn shared in several church ministries, she was a member of the Trustee Board, the Stewardship Finance Committee and was a regular participant in Wednesday Night Bible Study. She loved music and lifted her voice with the Spiritual Uplifters, Regeneration, Mass and Chancel Choirs. Carolyn maintained a strong Christian witness and impacted many lives through her selflessness and compassion.
Carolyn was employed with Ohio Department of Taxation and retired as a supervisor with over 37 years of service. However, Carolyn would not stay retired long as her volunteerism with the church office team soon turned into a full-time position as the Church’s Administrative Assistant. No matter the role, Carolyn took pride in her work and was a committed, dedicated servant of the Lord. Last year, Carolyn had finally decided to take some time for herself and announced she would retire at the end of 2020.
Carolyn enjoyed basketball and football. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State University football and basketball teams. Her pro teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Cavaliers, specifically Lebron James. She could name players and statistics with the best of them. Carolyn’s favorite pastime was shopping. She was a lover of fashion and accessories and curated a wardrobe befitting of the queen that she was.
Carolyn was a proud and private person, with a resolute presence, but a soft heart. She shared her heart with others in her own way. She never forgot anyone’s birthday and often sent a hand signed card with a token of love. She was very protective of those that she loved and was a loyal friend to many. Her presence will be truly missed.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 surrounded by family, Carolyn was called to heavenly service. She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Catherine White and her brothers Harold Grant and Nathaniel White. She leaves to cherish her memory: her grateful children, Shedrick White of Atlanta, Georgia, Darrell White, Deborah Roquemore and Schlaine Hutchins all of Columbus, Ohio; a brother Allen (Arnetta) White of Hinesville, GA; 7 grandchildren, Patrece (Markus) Broussard, Darius White, Renee’ Hutchins, Brittany Wilson, Lewis Panky Sr., Brandon White and Ryan White; nieces Sharunda Humphrey and Renee (Robert) Simmons; nephews, Jamal (Yolanda) White and Shedrich (Tameca) White; special cousin Francine Scott, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
