Catherine L. Morris was born January 20,1933, in Columbus, Ohio to John and Mattie Morris. She was the fourth of five children. She graduated from East High School in 1950. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith. At the tender age of twelve, she confessed Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. At the age of fourteen, Sis. Catherine became the Sunday School Secretary where she remained in that position for 72 years.

Catherine loved gospel music, she along with her two sisters and a friend formed an acapella gospel group called The Morris Singers. While ministering at Mt. Vernon AME Church in Columbus, Ohio, a gentleman named Sergeant Hamilton, from the Singing Airmen of Lockbourne Air Base, cordially invited them to minister at the Lockbourne Airforce Base where they graciously accepted the invitation. As she continued her singing ministry, Catherine, Mattie Carter, and Betty Smith were background singers for the Kay Robinson Singers for six years.

The Lord placed on Catherine’s heart a 19-year-old talented young man who was a musician named Thommy Adams. He was well known in the Christian community. She asked Thommy Adams if he would play for them, and he accepted. The group was formed and called The Imperial Sounds (Catherine Morris, Betty Smith, Gwendolyn Milner, Larry Smith, Marilyn Smith, Thommy Adams and Mattie Carter (now deceased) were all original members. The Imperial Sounds traveled and ministered throughout the country for 14 years; many of the songs they ministered were written and composed by Thommy Adams.

God ordered Catherine’s life, a life of service gladly taking care of her father, mother, and sister Rebecca; she had no regrets.

Catherine worked at The Ohio State University Food Service Department. A supervisor noticed her skills and impeccable work ethic and moved her to an office position, and as only she could quote “God Did It.”  As her employment adventures took her, she was later employed at Columbia Gas and then later at The Shoe Corporation of America, where she was promoted to the esteemed position of supervisor. “God Did It.”

Catherine retired from Container Port, however, due to her outstanding skill set in the company, they requested that she return to her position of which she graciously accepted and remained there for an additional eight years. “God Did It.”

Catherine Morris is preceded in death by her dear parents, her siblings John, James, and Rebecca Morris, and Rose Wagner.

Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, Godson Leon Harris; Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Cory Bracken, (Cora, the 17-month old little granddaughter that came to see her) their four children, and twelve grandchildren who adopted her as their “Grandma Catherine” as their God given family. “God did it.” Her loving church family and her dearest friend of over fifty-five years, Evangelist Barbara Carole Merrill; Special friend Sis. Marian Jackson and a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
