Charles H. Haynes, Jr.

Charles H. Haynes Jr., affectionately known as “Tickle” or “Tick”, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio.

Born on February 20, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, Charles was the first child of Charles H. Haynes Sr. and Shirley A. Haynes, the eldest of five sons.

Charles Jr. graduated from Bishop Hartley High School and later earned a degree in Business Administration from Franklin University. His education laid the foundation for a successful career in retail and public service.

Throughout his career, he served in distinguished positions, as Senior Fashion Buyer for Shoe Corporation of America, Fashion Buyer for Shonac Corporation, and Procurement Manager for the State of Ohio until his retirement. He earned the respect of colleagues through his leadership, integrity, and keen business sense.

Charles, Jr. was an entrepreneur, distinguished businessman, and devoted family man whose life was defined by hard work and integrity. He was a man of style, known by many as the gentleman who wore a suit and tie every day, no matter the temperature. I still do not know how he wore one in the heat and never seemed to sweat. He carried himself with dignity and grace leaving a lasting impression. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, generosity, loving spirit, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

Outside of work, my father enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, basketball, and bowling in leagues, listening to music, and cheering on his favorite teams—the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Charles, Jr. is survived by his beloved wife Linda Tolbert-Haynes; his son Charles H. Haynes III (Charles III mother, Linda Turner-Haynes); brother Cortez B. Haynes Sr. (Belinda Haynes); his extended Walker and Tolbert families; and countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cherished neighbors, and lifelong friends, all of whom will treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles H. Haynes Sr. and Shirley A. Haynes; his brothers Van L. Haynes, Cortland A. Haynes Sr., and Conrad Haynes; and his grandparents John W. Haynes Sr. and Blanche A. Haynes. Together, they played an instrumental role in raising Charles, Jr. and his four brothers, instilling the values of faith and family while providing a strong foundation that guided them throughout their lives.
