It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of our beloved brother, father, and friend, Craig Steven “Stevie” Elliott, who departed this life peacefully on October 26, 2025.
Born on March 26, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, Stevie was a proud graduate of East High School, where he marched to his own beat as a member of the school band. A talented drummer, he shared his love of music with countless others, playing in several local bands throughout the years.
Stevie continued his education in refrigeration and auto body repair, working in shops across Columbus before moving to Long Beach, California, where he worked for the City of Long Beach. Upon returning home, he dedicated himself to service through his work at Second Baptist Church and later as an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church. There he sang in the choir and served faithfully as President of the Methodist Men’s Association.
Known as “Stevie” to his family and “Baltimore” to his friends, he was a man of kindness, humor, and unwavering generosity—always ready to lend a helping hand and share a smile. His life was guided by faith, compassion, and the joy he found in giving to others.
Stevie is survived by his mother Georgia Mae Elliott; his brothers James Elliott and Don (June) Elliott ; his sisters Cheryl Williams and Sharon (Maurice) Alfred ; Ronnie (Shirley) Hairston and Gail (Howard) Latham; his sons James (Martia) Scruggs and Mother Charlestine Scruggs, Robert (Arianna) Sinkler and Mother Robin Sinkler. His grandsons James Scruggs II, Daijuan, (Kaprianna) Dailaun Sinkler, and Vincent Scruggs, Granddaughters Wahnita Rife, Tayna Scruggs, Essence Bates, Daianna and Dailiyah Sinkler; and his great grandson Justin Rife, Justin Coady. Great granddaughter Ariah Sinkler. He is also survived by his former wife Brenda Robertson; his stepchildren Shanisha Smith and Marjani Johnson; and leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Stevie will be remembered for his music, his laughter, and his servant’s heart. His rhythm lives on in the lives he touched, and his faith continues to inspire all who knew him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
