Family will receive friends on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until time of Eastern Star Service at 11:15 a.m. Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon AME, 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave., Columbus, OH 43203
Daisy Brown Lewis, age 92, was the first born to Charles and Farries Brown of Columbus, Ohio. She received her primary and secondary education in the Columbus Public Schools. She attended Capital University and Columbus Technical Institute. Daisy retired from the Defense Logistics Agency, Systems Automation Center, where she was employed as a Systems Analyst. She received numerous awards for her outstanding performance.
Daisy served her community in many capacities. She was Past President of the Youth Service Guild, Loan Executive for United Way, Advisor to “I Know I Can Program” for over 15 years, and a long-time member of Friends of the Arts for Community Enrichment (F.A.C.E.).
Daisy was a loyal and committed member of the Prince Hall Masonic Family. Daisy was elevated to the highest honor of Grand Worthy Matron, Amaranth Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was a 50-year charter member of Grace Chapter No. 100. Daisy was also The Most Ancient Grand Matron, Heroines of Jericho III, Commandress of Alla Baba Court No. 75, Daughters of Isis, Loyal Lady Ruler, Capital Valley Assembly No. 36, and Grand Treasurer, Ohio Grand Assembly Order of The Golden Circle for 22 years.
Daisy has been a member of Mt. Vernon Avenue A.M.E. Church for more than 70 years. She was an active member of her church serving in many capacities. Daisy was a member of theEssie Hamilton Missionary Society, Fourth Stewardess Board, Chairman and Editor of the church Pictorial Directory, Director of the Acolyte Program, and long-time presenter for the Children’s Hour.
Daisy was married to Kenneth Lewis for 68 years. There were very few times that you did not see Daisy without Ken. Daisy’s greatest joy was her family, she had two beautiful and loving daughters. Daisy also loved traveling and was a fashionista, dressing up for most any occasion. There was never a moment when she did not enjoy the numerous compliments that she received.
Daisy was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Carroll; her parents Charles and Farries Brown; brothers, Arthur (Nancy) Brown and Jay (Glodene) Robinson. Daisy is survived by herloving husband of 68 years Kenneth E. Lewis; daughter Kathy (Gerard) Griffin; three Grandsons Brian, Gerren and Jordan, six Great Grandsons, one Great Granddaughter, three nieces, and a host of family and friends.
