Davida Ann Cousins was born on August 9, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the first of three children born to Billie Ann Rose and David Anthony Cousins, who instilled in her the values of faith, hard work and perseverance.

Davida's formative years were spent in Detroit attending Lomax AME church, where she sang in the choir and was part of the Y-Teens Youth Group. She spent her young adult years working in administration and the service industry before deciding to return to school.

While raising her two children as a single mom, Davida earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Highland Park Community College in 1992. She spent the next 25 years working for various home healthcare agencies, including a decision to start her own agency.

In 2010, Davida moved to Arizona to be closer to her son, Tony. She worked in hospice before retiring around 2018.

Davida was a passionate reader of science fiction and Harlequin romance novels. She would often amass hundreds of books she had read and trade them in for others. She shunned electronic reading devices because, as she said, "I prefer the feel of a book in my hands while eating my tomatoes".

Davida was strong in her faith and was selfless in her desire to help her family in any way that she could. And above all, never shied away from a good debate on religion or politics. You absolutely did not want to mess with her.

In the last years of her amazing life, Davida moved back east to Columbus, Ohio where she was an active member of her retirement community, organizing events and activities.

Davida is survived by her siblings Marilyn Johnson and David Cousins, her son Anthony "Tony" Cousins, and her grandchildren Zepporah Cousins, Jo Prez Owens, Zakaiah Poh, David Anthony Cousins and Eden Cousins.
