Obituary

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 for the Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Rest Memorial Estates, 8029 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.

Deloris Constella Hicks (Dee) passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2023. She was 90 years old and was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Albert Harrington, son Charles (Chuckie) and siblings, Marion and George Hicks Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her sister Laura, brother-in-law Paul Locke, daughter, Lysa, grandchildren, Lauren, Adam, Makayla and Makiya and great-grandchild, Ariya.

Deloris was born in Lyon, MS to George A Hicks and Mary Ford Hicks. She was the second of four children. The family moved to Columbus in 1939 where she attended Mount Vernon Elementary School and eventually completed her education at East High School. She was raised in Mount Vernon Avenue African Methodist Episcopal Church.

She worked for Ohio State University Hospital, The Ohio Council of Churches, Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation and retired from the Defense Construction Supply Center after 35 years of service. She donated to various organizations and belonged to many social organizations to include; Red Cross Association, A Quality of Sharing, The Ursel White Lewis Modeling Association and Beatty Park Parent Association.

Deloris was a Realist Artist who preferred to work in plain air and was inspired by the beauty of nature. Her art has been shown in group exhibitions including, Arts Community Expressions, Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Outreach Center and Shawnee Historical Preservation.

Her pride was in her Historical research in family ancestry and genealogy. She continued this passion for thirty years and traced her family history back 278 years finding eight generations. Her experiences have been in the National Archives county courthouse and various genealogical libraries.

Throughout her journey, Deloris has traveled to Mexico, Canada, Germany, Italy, Australia and France. Deloris was the mother of two children. However, she was a caregiver to many, and enjoyed making people happy. She always provided support and love for her family and those close to her and her light will forever be missed.
