DON CURTIS CALHOUN was a native of Columbus, Ohio, born Tuesday, August 7, 1956, to Barbara (Gardner) Calhoun and Leroy Calhoun. Educated in Columbus City Schools, Don proudly graduated from East High School, Class of 1974. To his family and friends, he was affectionately known as Donnie.

Don loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his Savior. He found joy in worshipping at First Church of God, where his faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Don served thirty-three years as a medical records technician at The Ohio State University Hospital, retiring in 2012. Retirement didn’t slow him down for he later joined the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, where he truly enjoyed returning to work and embracing a new environment.

Donnie was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a master chef on the grill. He often cooked enough food for several days, sharing his delicious meals with family and friends. He had a special love for planting flowers, line dancing, and spending time with the people he cherished. Old school music filled his days, especially the sounds of Michael Jackson and Gladys Knight — though Donnie loved them all. His kindness extended far beyond his circle; he frequently helped elderly community members by driving them to stores, doctor’s appointments, or wherever they needed to go.

On Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of sixty-nine, our beloved Don C. Calhoun entered eternal rest. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annabell Gardner, and his brother, Bean Calhoun.

Loving memories are cherished by his sister, Monica “Penny” Poole; brother, Kevin Joyce; stepbrother, Leroy Calhoun; nieces, Erika Howard, Phenyx Poole, and Deana Calhoun; nephew, Marlowe Calhoun; great-nieces, Amya Mosby, Niyomi Muhammed, and Wednesday Calhoun; great-nephews, Sincere Thornton and Shemar Calhoun; close friends, Derrick Nimmons, Natasha White, Freda Knapper, Allen Layne, Robert Smallwood, and Dwight Dixon; his beloved dog, NuNu, who he adored; along with a village of family and dear friends, who will forever hold him in their hearts.
