Peace, rest, and double honor to our beloved Queen Mother Dorothy Emma Johnson, who passed away on September 18, 2020. She was the matriarch of the family and the Saint who lived what she preached. She loved the Lord, this we know for sure. She also enjoyed the time spent with her family and was known for her role in raising the generations.
She was born May 9, 1936 to Fred and Rachel Johnson, in a world that required of her, unshakeable faith and perseverance. Her adult life saw marriage to William Mitchell and her moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1967, where she worked to retirement from American Electric Power.
As a great mother of six children, a grandmother of 22 and great grandmother beyond, to 75. Her residence was the beacon and center of gatherings. She was the personification of “Home”. Being in her presence, her warmth and love, was to be home.
For teaching us, uplifting us and being present in our lives. For all the laughter and the love, for establishing discipline and for standing as a friend to righteousness. You could depend on her and even still.
As these qualities have been inherited by her children and grandchildren, so her moral insight and strength of character will live on.
Preceded in death by parents Fred and Rachel Johnson, nephew Darryl Harding, William Mitchell and recent in-law Eugene Mitchell, Jr.
She is survived by her sister Ruby Washington; children, Celestine Diggs, Benny (Doris) Mitchell, Sr., Willie (Lena) Mitchell, Sr., Carl (Pam) Tinnery, Tracy Tinnery and Anne Belle Harding. As well as her beloved in-laws, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Special friends Jeanette Hawkins and Mattie Ross. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
