Earnest Windham Obituary

Life’s Reflections

A Time To Be Born Earnest Windham Sr. journey began November 4, 1948 and he was born to Donniell (Clint) Wood, Bi-logical father O.W. Windham in Louin, Mississippi. Ernie was the middle of three children. Brother Emmett Windham and Sister Margaret Windham-Collier.

A Time To Live Earnest fondly known as “Ernie” or “THE REAL MAIL MAN” relocated with his family to Columbus, Ohio from Mississippi at a young age. Ernie attended Central High School where he was a wrestler. During the summer of his 10th grade year, he met the apple of his eye Janet Mitchell. He and Janet began dating their Junior year in high school and he became her Hunk and she became his Bunchy and from that moment they never looked back. After graduation, Ernie joined the Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War. Ernie earned his bachelor degree from Franklin University in Business Administration. He worked at the railroad as an Engineer and went on to work at the United States Postal Service and retired after 41½  years of service.

Ernie loved his wife of 50 years and was a devoted husband, father and provider. He always had an ABUNDANCE of advice for everyone and had a very compassionate heart. Ernie was an active member of Mt. Vernon A.M.E. where he served as the Trustee Pro Tem and previously drove the church bus, painted, provided security and various other positions within the church. He enjoyed grocery shopping and finding a bargain.

Ernie loved his home. No matter where he was, he would say “Janet my house is calling me” and anyone who came to the house knew they would find him sitting on the couch in his favorite spot or working in the yard.

A Time To Love Ernie had a special love for his wife of 50 years Janet Windham, his son’s Kenneth (Erica) Windham, Earnest (Lauren) Windham Jr. proceeded in death by parents Donniell (Clint) Wood, Bi-logical father O.W. Windham grandparents Mathew and Roena Russell Sr.  William and Azulene Gammage. He leaves to cherish his memory the apples of his eyes grandchildren Vannittia Windham, Dante and Donovan Windham, Kobe Collins, Nevaeh, Kennyana, Kiya, Kaden Windham and Giovonni Barr, Athena (Courtney) Ray Granddaughter/niece, God Daughter Janeé Danielle Jenkins, Granddog: Harlem, Brother In-laws, Kenneth, Allen (Carrie) and Nate Mitchell, Sister In-law: Rosann Calloway and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special friends Reverend Raymond (Robin) Mickens and Ebony Newby-Brown.

A Time To Depart Earnest “Ernie” flew softly into the arms of God on March 19, 2019, where “He Finally Made It Home”.
