Family will receive friends Monday December 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219. Interment: Forestlawn Memorial Gardens.

ETHEL MAE NEVELS was born on December 11, 1931 in Montgomery, Alabama to Ruben and Jessie ( Briggs) Tate. She went home to be with the Lord on November 15, 2025.

Ethel was four years old when the family moved to Anderson, Indiana. She attended the Anderson Public School System and graduated from Anderson High School. In 1950, she moved to Columbus, Ohio.

On October 24, 1953, Ethel was united in marriage to Fred W. Nevels, and to this union two sons were born, Kenneth and Richard Nevels. Ethel attended Franklin University and was employed at the Defense Construction Supply Center (D.C.S.C). She retired after 34 and a half years of service working for the government.

Ethel accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was twelve years of age, and was baptized in Jesus's Name, and received the Holy Ghost under the pastorate of the late Elder Armester Barnes. After relocating to Columbus, OH, she became a member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith when it was located at Collins and Pennsylvania Avenue, under the pastorate of the late Bishop Karl F. Smith. She began to take courses at Aenon Bible College and was the secretary of Aenon Bible College for almost three years.

She began working for the Lord in many capacities serving on the Trustee Board for several terms, Project Help Pantry, Project Help Clothing Ministry, Prayer Group Leader, Meals for the Needy and other projects for the building renovation. She was also a member of the gospel and senior choirs. She was a Sunday School teacher for fourth grade students. She has been a member of CCAF for over 55 years. She loved the Lord and she will truly be missed. She was indeed a caring friend to many and a devoted mother to her sons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Jessie Tate; brother, John Tate, Sr. and nephew, John Tate, Jr.; and sons father, Fred W. Nevels.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Kenneth (Linda) Nevels, Medina, OH and Richard (Joan) Nevels; three grandchildren, Jermaine, Travis, and Mariah Nevels; two great grandchildren TaTum and Taylor Nevels, sister in law Diane Tate Bolton, Detroit, MI; special friends Mary Jo Boston, Indianapolis, IN, Esther Haynes, Marian Jackson, Mary Lyons, Norma J. Norwood, Terri Wise, Gloria Woods, Sandra Walters Holly, and a host of other friends and family.
