Ethel "Toni" Mitchell Obituary

Family will receive friends on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 206 N. Garfield Ave., Columbus, OH 43209. Interment: Greenlawn Cemetery.

Ethel Truett Mitchell was born August 2, 1925, in LaFayette, Alabama, to John D. Truett and Hattie Mattie Combs Truett. One brother and one sister preceded her in death. While in high school in
Alabama, she met her beloved Cecil, who she joined in holy matrimony years later. They became proud parents of one precious son, Cecil Jr.

She was brought up in a Christian family and at an early age was trained in Christian ethics, commitment, and participation in the C.M.E. Church. Upon moving to Columbus to further pursue her
education, she joined Bethany Presbyterian Church under the pastorate of Rev. John B. Quick. Her great love for God caused her to participate in The Trustee Board, as the Moderator of Deacons, Moderator of the Women’s Association and as an Ordained Elder. Toni freely shared her steadfast faith with others.

During her retirement years, Toni enabled many others to travel throughout the country by sponsoring bus tours. Through her outgoing personality, organizational skills and wit, she brought
people together who became like family to her.

Ethel was employed by the State of Ohio as a Junior Auditor for the Treasurer of State, and retired from Borden, Inc. in Inventory Accounting Foods Division. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cecil Mitchell, Sr. (in 2023) with whom she shared 76 years of marriage. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Cecil Jr. (Darin), her precious nieces and great-nieces – Debra, Robin, Sonya (Negal), Bobbie, Kelva, Janet, LaTanya, Patricia, Shirley (Preston), Debbie, Mae (Charles), and Crystal: nephews – Frank (Kathleen), Van (Willa), Big Richard, her sweetheart Darryl Dee, John (Shirley), and Shawn,: Goddaughter Elizabeth (John); special cousin Ernestine, and a host of other relatives and friends.
