Calling Hours, Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43219. Private Family Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment East Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive flowers at the church.
Evelyn Corrine Cardwell was born on May 14, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio to Eugene and Irene Leonard. She was an only child. She departed this life on Friday January 1, 2021 at her home in Columbus, Ohio peacefully in the company of family and friends.
She was raised in Cleveland Ohio and upon graduation from High School moved to Columbus with her Grandmother. Evelyn met and married lifelong friend Lester Earl Cardwell in 1948. Lester and Evelyn adopted two sons, Anthony Earl Cardwell and Mark Anthony Cardwell.
Evelyn attended and graduated from the Poro School of Cosmetology and became a licensed beautician. She was known as an excellent hairstylist. After retiring as a beautician Evelyn later enjoyed working and then also retiring from the Columbus Metropolitan Library. She was known as an excellent seamstress and was involved in many craft guilds over the years.
Evelyn was an active member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith for over 55 years joining the fellowship while it was on Donaldson and Washington Avenue. She also immensely enjoyed activities with the church Senior Golden-Agers. She managed group activities and created many beautiful crafts that helped raise funds for the fellowship. She was a faithful member of Sunday school class #7.
Evelyn lived a full life of service to her family and fellowship and leaves behind many friends that loved her and will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lester Cardwell, parents Eugene and Irene Leonard. Grandson Shawn Ross-Mitchell. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons Anthony Cardwell and Mark Cardwell (Jana) Grandchildren, Tonda Cardwell, Matthew Cardwell (Janille), Cherish Cardwell and a host of beloved in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
