Mrs. Evelyn Diane Flewellen was born March 20 1953 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis
and Georgia Grant. Evelyn’s family moved to Toledo and eventually to Columbus during her early years.
Evelyn graduated from Linden McKinley High School and Nationwide School of Fashion and Design. She
received a Bachelor’s Degree from Capital University and a Master’s Degree from Methodist Theological
Seminary in Ohio. She was later ordained as a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Evelyn departed this life on Friday, November 13, 2020. She was preceded in death by her biological
father, Curtis Grant, bonus father William Spaulding, and mother Georgia Spaulding, and her spouses’
parents James and Elizabeth Flewellen; and bonus child Jaron Thomas.
Career Employment: Sears Eastland Department Store (Executive Secretary to Store Manager/Assistant
Manager, and Store Fashion Coordinator; First Community Bank, Assistant Vice-President of First
Investment Mortgage Company; Owner/Operator of Tiffany’s Boutique of Bexley; Manager of the
Bryden House Senior Citizen’s Housing; Owner/Operator of Our New Beginning Day Care Center; and
the Columbus Public Schools (i.e. Substitute at various schools; Teacher at Eastgate, Executive Assistant
to Principal and Librarian at Trevitt .)
Loving memories cherished by her husband of 46 years James R; devoted daughter Tiffany and spouse
Albert; devoted sister-in-law, Emma; grandsons Philip II and Albert III; bonus children Melech Wiley
(Inetta); Chana Wiley (Theo); Josiah Thomas, godchildren Keith and Evan Smith and a host of other
family relatives (Auntie Mary, Uncle Michael and cousins); friends, church members and several other
bonus children that affectionately called her mom. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
