Frederick Lee Steward, Jr.

June 6, 1945 – January 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Frederick Lee Steward, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Freddie departed this world on January 9, 2024, in Pensacola, Florida, leaving a void that will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Freddie is survived by his devoted wife, Bernice Y. Steward, and children Marcia S. (Frederick) Todd, Frederick L. Steward, III, Angela S. (Willard) McIntosh, Derek L. (Shayna) Steward, stepdaughter Darlene Finney, and special nephew (son) Kevin Hart. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren India Todd, Rashod Todd, Frederick Steward, IV, Julian Steward, Andi McAllister, Tyler McIntosh, Derek Steward, II, Alexis Steward, Derin Steward, and a host of great-grandchildren.

Freddie’s memory will also be carried on by his brothers, Eric and Aaron Thomas, special cousins Brenda (Henry) Lewis and Fay Presley, along with his godsons Michael Byard and David Deslandes E. Bowling, 2nd.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Bernadine Steward, Frank and Georgie Thomas, parents Frederick Lee (Elaine) Steward, Ira Laverne Thomas, siblings Craig and Crandell Ward, and Michele Ward Williams. Stepfathers Arthur Lee Ward, Aaron Thomas, and special cousin Herman Presley.

Freddie’s educational journey led him through East High School, and he attended The Ohio State University. A dedicated worker, he retired from Timken Roller Bearing and DSCC. Freddie had a passion for sports, always cheering for the winning team. His impeccable style and love for unique jewelry made him a standout individual. A firm and strong man, he believed in bringing out the best in people.

Freddie had a passion for automobiles. You might have spotted him driving by with the license plate “SHOWGO1” on one of his always-sharp cars. A voracious reader, Freddie’s favorite author was James Patterson. His sense of humor, sharp as ever, will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Freddie cherished moments with family, especially enjoying vacations at the Outer Banks, in North Carolina. He held dear memories of his time with his Grandma Georgie, often recounting stories from those precious days.

As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Freddie not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the laughter, love, and wisdom he shared. May he rest in eternal peace.
