Freida J. Coleman Obituary

Family will receive friends on Thursday May 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Gospel Lighthouse Church. Interment: Sunset Cemetery.

Freida Joyce Coleman was born minutes before her twin sister Reverend Freda Moss on July 10, 1948, in Morristown, Tennessee to the Reverend Harry Ashley and Mollie Lucille Coleman. For a few years the Coleman family lived in Harriman, Tennessee then sent to Pastor in Troy, OH and later settled on the Hilltop in Columbus, OH.

Her spiritual foundation was laid under the guidance of her father, Reverend Harry Coleman, at Wesley Chapel and Hilltop United Methodist Church. Freida made the greatest decision of her life accepting Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. After growing in the Lord, she realized there was a need for the Holy Spirit to reside within her and yielded to receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Her growth continued under the mentorship of her brother-in-law, Reverend Matthew Moss, at Stewart Memorial and Praise Temple, also through her participation at Gospel Lighthouse Church under the Pastorate of Dr. Jerry D. Fryar and in her later years at Rhema Christian Center. These ministries deeply nurtured Frieda’s personal relationship with the Lord.

Freida actively participated in numerous church ministries, including various choirs, the Methodist Youth Fellowship, missionary work, Bible studies, Vacation Bible Schools, Sunday School, Praise and Worship leader and Stewardess in the CME Church organization. Everyone that knew her knew she loved lions. She often expressed this connection by declaring herself to be "of the tribe of Judah."

As a long-time engaged resident of the Hilltop community and graduate of West High School in Columbus, Frieda was an active member of the Hilltop YMCA Senior Program. Her involvement included senior swim, book club, fundraising efforts that sent two young individuals to summer camp, and creating beautiful baskets to support various YMCA programs.

Frieda dedicated her entire career to Nationwide Insurance Company, where she also pursued further coursework. During her time there, she distinguished herself by receiving Toastmasters Awards for her public speaking and writing abilities. She also spear-headed various Black History and Christian programs as well as drama productions at Nationwide in Downtown Columbus.

Frieda was also renowned for her culinary talents, with favorites including Texas sheet cake, red velvet cake, sweet potato pie and cream cheese mints. Her skills extended to crafting, designing floral arrangements, decorating wedding cakes and catering for special events with her twin sister Freda. They called their business “Creation Sensation”.

In her final days, as her health rapidly declined, Frieda expressed her readiness to go "HOME." As believers, we understand this "HOME" to be her entrance into the Lord’s presence, a place of perfect healing, free from disease and pain, where sorrow and suffering cease, and perfect peace and freedom reign. Though we will deeply miss Frieda – our Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Auntie, and Friend – we celebrate her liberation and her peace, knowing that we will one day be reunited in that glorious “HOME”.

On May 2, 2025, she made her transition into the arms of the Lord. She is proceeded in death by her parents; Reverend Harry Ashley and Mollie Lucille Coleman, Brother John Ashley Coleman, Sister Paula Yvonne Coleman and Brother-in-Law Reverend Matthew Epperson Moss Sr. She leaves to cherish; her twin sister Reverend Freda Moss, Minister Karen Coleman and Omega (Gil) Parker, her only child Dawn (Robert) Hill, Grandchildren Elder Devyn Ashley (MeShia) Coleman, Daniel aka Danny James, Darien aka Joey (Dominique), Derek aka Mookie (Zenia), Dawnae, Dalyne, and Dayanna. Freida also leaves 14 Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and special friends; Juanita Lane, Wanda Veasley, Lawerence Ervin, and Marylin Oliver.
