George Allen III, P.E. was born on October 27, 1946, on MacDill Air Force Base (AFB) in Tampa, Florida.  The third eldest of eight children to Retired Staff Sergeant George Allen Jr. and Mary Chapman Allen.  In his youth, George and his family traveled with his military father who served in the US Air Force for 20 years.  George traveled with his father to various U.S. Air Force bases around the world.

He started school in Sedalia, Missouri and lived in Salina Kansas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Hokkaido, Japan; Agana, Guam; and Plattsburgh, New York. George moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1957 and attended Hamilton Township Junior High School while his father was stationed at Lockbourne AFB (which is now called Rickenbacker AFB).  After leaving Lockbourne AFB, his father was assigned to Anderson AFB in Agana, Guam.  The Allens were the first Black family to be stationed on Anderson AFB, where George attended Tumon High School.  He worked on the Base as a bagger at the Base Commissary and was a paper boy with his siblings.  After leaving Guam, the family stayed one year on the Plattsburgh AFB in New York when his father retired from the Air Force in 1963.  The family then returned to Columbus, Ohio where George graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1964.  After graduation, George attended Ohio State University (OSU), but his studies were interrupted due to his Draft into the U.S. Army.  While serving in Vietnam, he was selected to the Officer's Candidate School and later achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant.  While in Vietnam, he was stationed at the Tan Son Nhut Air Base.  George was Honorably Discharged from the Army and moved back to Columbus to resume his studies at OSU.  While in school, George worked at WOSU as a radio engineer and later received his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.  Also, while attending OSU, he met and later married Nadine Lovelace of Columbus, Ohio.  George then worked as an engineer for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a part of the engineering team where Pampers Diapers were introduced to Egypt.

In 1992, George relocated to the Peach State of Georgia where Atlanta became his home.  During that time, he worked as an engineer for Nabisco, and the Georgia Department of Transportation.  He also pursued many entrepreneurial ventures.

George passed away on January 11, 2021 from cancer.

George was preceded in death by his parents George Allen Jr. and Mary Allen; two sisters, Claudia McCauley Humphrey, Mary Magdalene Johnson; one brother, Ira Stanford Allen, and companion Anne Goode.
