Ms. Helen Virginia Verdine was born in Warrenton, GA on December 8, 1937, when she was quite young, Helen became a Christian. Her daughter, Crystal Denise Norris-McClure was born to her and Benjamin Brown, on July 27, 1958.
In 1946 she and her parents, Mrs. Rosie and Mr. Ephron Norris, moved to Columbus, Ohio. Ms. Helen Norris-Verdine married Donnie Ray Verdine on June 27, 1990, and divorced on June 23, 1983. She attended Sunday school and church as well. She was attending Trinity Baptist Church until a lengthy illness prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed people and life to the fullest.
Helen had a love for Cockatiel birds (Pierre, Charlie, and Paco) and dogs (Jack and Cinco). Our family pets visited her in the skilled nursing facilities and always put a smile on her face. Helen was a wiz at mathematics. She graduated from East High School in Columbus, Ohio.
Helen was a Nurse Aide with Mt. Carmel Hospital West, later attended business college to obtain her Keypunch Diploma and went to work for The Ohio State University. She worked in keypunch and was later promoted to a Programmer Assistant and retired early due to illness. She enjoyed the college students she helped and met some of the OSU Basketball and Football Players. She enjoyed watching the basketball and football games and even attended some games as well. She liked the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Chicago Bulls. She also enjoyed traveling to Maryland and Canada on numerous occasions. She loved plants and gardening. Family, holiday gatherings and picnics were particularly important to her. She and her mother would attend concerts, marching and orchestra bands her daughter Crystal participated in. She also enjoyed watching her granddaughter, Brandie in Karate classes and shows. Also, she supported Brandie when she started bowling, and attended the bowling leagues and high school league tournaments when she could. She loved a variety of music and concerts.
Helen was a 21-year cancer survivor this year and never had to take chemotherapy or radiation treatments. She said God blessed her, not having to do it. Because of her faith in God, she always read her Bible daily and always kept her faith in God.
On the morning of August 31, 2023, Helen Verdine received her wings and is preceded in death by her parents Ephron Norris and Rosie B. Norris, grandmother Bessie Torrence, Aunt and Uncle John Elliott and Annie Elliott, their son William Torrence, Great Grandparents Samuel and Fannie Torrence, their son in law Dietrich Donald McClure, Cousins: Shirley Davis, Grady Davis, Luella Ingram of GA and Benjamin Brown (Crystal’s Father and Brandie’s Grandfather).
Helen leaves to cherish her memory, her granddaughter Miss Brandie Lynnea Norris-McClure, Columbus, OH, Daughter Crystal Norris-McClure (Cornell), Columbus, OH, Niece, Betina Verdine-Young Columbus, OH, Cousin Eva Jones, of Atlanta, GA, Pat Torrence of Atlanta, GA, Mary Ingram, of Twinsburg OH, Joyce Torrence, Pickerington, OH, Dennis Torrence, Mansfield, OH, Mr. Mrs. Terry Chambrey of Arizona, Deacon Claude N. Castleberry, Jr. of Springfield, OH, Friends: Mrs. Gwen Funchess-Whatley, and Mrs. Bettie Morgan of Columbus, OH Josephine Verdine Sister in law Shreveport Louisiana, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends as well.
