Family will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219.

Herman Allen Swan was born on May 30, 1966, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Josephine Bell and Tommy Swan Sr. Growing up, Herman enjoyed spending time with his siblings and cousins and loved retelling the stories of their many adventures. He also had a passion for sports, playing basketball, football, and baseball with family and friends, where he proved to be a talented player.

After graduating from West High School in 1984, Herman embarked on a new journey by enlisting in the US Navy. He was stationed at the prestigious Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Apprentice. Herman's dedication and service were commendable, and he was honorably discharged in 1989 after two periods of sea service.

After leaving the Navy, Herman explored various industries before finding his passion in car detailing. He worked as an Assistant Manager at Universal Detailing for several years before eventually settling in Lancaster, Ohio.

Herman's love for his family and community was a beacon of light in his life. He found solace in attending the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith and volunteered with the Bread of Life Ministry and the Charles Madison Nabrit Memorial Garden. His devotion was most evident in his relationship with his mother, Josephine Bell; his sisters, Tonya, Tanika, and Vera; his brothers, Tommy and Damon; and his nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Although he had no biological children, Herman's love extended to his nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he treated as his own. He cherished every moment spent with them.

Herman was an avid sports fan who loved basketball, football, and boxing. He enjoyed college and professional teams, and his favorites were the Philadelphia 76ers and the Oakland Raiders. But no team was put above the Buckeyes, as he was a die-hard Ohio State Buckeye fan in both football and basketball.

Herman's presence was a joy to everyone he met. He never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. His caring nature was especially evident in the years he spent helping to care for his uncle, Collin Bell, before his death. He was a pillar of strength and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Herman was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Bell; maternal grandmother, Annie Kate (Couch) Freeman; sister, Tonya Jo Swan; uncle, Collin Bell; and aunt, Sarah Goolsby. He leaves to cherish his memories his father, Tommy (Delores) Swan Sr., brother Tommy Swan Jr. (Vera); sister, Tanika (Damon) Nabrit; niece, Taylor Swan; nephew, Brandon Swan; great-nephews, Romello Thomas and Anthony Allen; and a whole host of extended family and friends. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Herman; your love and care made his journey all the more meaningful. May his spirit continue to inspire acts of kindness and generosity in all who knew him.
