Ira Junior Rogers “Billy” peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 at The Ohio State University Hospital. He was born on October 8th, 1941 to the late Ira L.  Rogers  and Lottie Jacobs-Rogers in Hurdles Mill, North Carolina. He was the third child of twelve siblings and the 1st son born. 

He joined the Union Grove Baptist Church in Union Grove, North Carolina and was baptized as a young boy. Ira attended Person County High School; where he only completed the 9th  grade. He later moved to Columbus, Ohio in summer of 1963. June of 1965 he  married  Aslee McCalla, thru this union, they were the proud parents of 3 children.

Ira was employed with AAMCAO Transmission where he attended school and received his license/certification as a Transmission Specialist. He worked for AAMCAO for a few years until he started his business 1972 with  Exxon Mobile, selling gasoline, auto repair, transmission and towing.  Ira was also the Vice President for MTS Towing which he was responsible for towing vehicles for the Columbus City Police Department that included towing, impounds, lockouts, accidents, street cleaning and meter parking. After 40 years of service in the community, he finally, finally decided to retired. It was very hard getting him out that tow truck. 

He was a pillar in his Southfield Community by helping a lot of people fix their cars and including towing & anything else that he was able to do. Mr. Rogers was a Southfield Community LEGEND! He loved camping, fishing, and truly loved his family. He really enjoyed his (grand/great-grand children) and to see the special connection was a blessing.  He was one of the most favorite cousins in the family near and far. “Cousin Billy”!

In He leaves to cherish: his 5 children: Danna, Larry, Sheree, Jodi and Tiffany. 15 grand children: Mitchell, Larry Jr., Aslee, Jateeka, Shantelle, Brandon, Sierra, Emmanuel, Lauryn, Brooklyn, Kennedy, Samira, Devon,  Christopher, and Zora.  He also had 4 Great-grand children: Ty’Naeya, Tyrell Jr., Jayceon, and Justyce. Brother: James (Ernestine) and Joseph Rogers of N.C., Sister Hazel (Wilbur)Torain of N.C., Sister-in-loves: Betty, Darlene Rogers of N.C., Dreama Rogers of Columbus, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that are to many to name.

Preceded in death by both parents, brothers: Monroe, Maxcy, Walter, Morris, Terry and Jacob. Sisters: Sallie Ann and Elvenia.

Special friends: Clella Mae Jackson, Irene Mathis, Mary Sells, Oliver Johnson, Eli Washington and so many more.
