Ivan L Palmer attended Columbus Public Schools and he graduated from Licking Heights. After graduation, Ivan enlisted in the United States Army, served two tours in Germany, and eventually returned to Columbus Ohio. Ivan began his employment with Columbus Public Schools Department of Transportation, he also worked at Buckeye Steel. Ivan was a faithful member of Calvary Tremont Baptist Church, Columbus Ohio.
Following in the entrepreneur footsteps of his father, Ivan became an Independent Freight, owner, and operator. Ivan loved being his own boss and he loved to drive. Thus, he spent many years crossing the country with his children in his Semi affectionately known as “Big Red” taking in the wonders and sights of the world as an Independent Freight Operator for more than eleven years.
Ivan was a dedicated family man who spent time with his children, grandchildren, and siblings. Ivan had the gift of friendship, he never met a stranger, he was easy going, helpful, and always there for his family and friends. Ivan loved to listen to music, watch politics, and debate political topics. Most times you could find Ivan listening to his favorite artist including Kem, Frankie Beverly, Maze and Deitrick Haddon while helping out others.
Ivan was a master skilled crafter; he was good with his hands and has the skills to fix almost anything. His favorite phrase “I heard that” was Ivan's way of letting you know he was listening. Some of his other talents included grill master and helping with set-up and clean-up at most family and community events.
Ivan L. Palmer was proceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Mildred Palmer, Clarence "Clancy" S. Palmer Jr., Lena M. Palmer, and Stepmother, Willie C. Palmer. Ivan L. Palmer leaves to cherish his memories two children Andre Lamar’ & Brittaney Nicole Palmer, three precious grandchildren Amari Palmer, Legacee Palmer-Jones, and Destinee Davis. Five surviving siblings, Clarence “Tim (Alice) Jackson, Otis (Toycee Hague ) Palmer, Terrie T. Palmer, Pamela D. Palmer, Jerry Palmer, and Willetta (Brian) Hill. Best friends, Olin Cannon (Hampton Georgia), Morris Wright (Ellenwood Georgia), Nate Noble, (Columbus, Ohio) special cousins, Freddie Palmer, Robert Chandler, and Girlfriend of 17yrs Gina Chavis all of Columbus, Ohio. Ivan presences on this earth will be missed by many including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins’ uncles and aunts on both sides of the family.
May Ivan L. Palmer rest in peace and soar in heaven. Thank you, brother, father “aka” Daddy, uncle, for being a part of lives for the past 61 years.
