Elder James Thomas Hairston, 66, passed away on Saturday, May 22 at his home, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Tams, West Virginia on November 12, 1954 to the late Nathaniel and Lee Esther Ross Hairston. James was also preceded in death by his grandparents, George Ross and Louise Ross Beamer, Early Hairston and Harriett Toliferro; brothers Nathaniel D. Hairston and James Young. James is survived by his children Natalie Hairston and Ronald Price of Columbus, Ohio and Chrissie Davis of Alexandria, VA; sisters Sandra L. Blaney, Rhonda Coleman-Robinson, Sheri Hairston, Sharon Hairston all of West Virginia, Darla Werhie and Brenda Cooper both of Georgia; brothers Keith (Melissa) Hairston of Columbus, GA and Mervin (Karen) Hairston of Beckley, WV; grandchildren Ronald Lamont Price, Ronald Price III, LaWan Price all of Columbus, OH, Ronald Thomas of Harlem, NY; and Jerry Davis of Alexandria, VA. James also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and special friend Susan Minda.
James graduated from Sophia High School in 1974, afterwards he attended Concord College where he was an outstanding athlete. James then later went on to marry the love of his life, Rosa Lee Price Hairston, on June 5, 1982, and they were blessed with over 39 years together. James was employed by Ametek Solid State Controls for 20 years. James was a long-time member of Zion Christian Assembly that was founded by Bishop William Polley. Where James served on the Ministerial Alliance, Usher Board, Kitchen Committee and was also a member of the male chorus.
James enjoyed fishing, cooking, and especially grilling where he was known as the master-griller. James earned his black belt in Karate and enjoyed watching Westerns. James was also the proud owner of Fat Jimmy’s Ribs and Chicken restaurant.
