Mr. James Sylvester Spruiel departed this life on May 17, 2026, at his home in Columbus, OH.

He was born on November 5, 1948, in Jenkin Jones, West Virginia, to James and Louise Spruiel. James attended Central High School in Columbus, Ohio, and later graduated from Columbus State Community College with his associate’s degree in construction management.

At a young age, James accepted the Lord and became involved in a Christian youth club. He was baptized at Church of Christ Apostolic Faith in Columbus, Ohio. His heart and passion were devoted to Prison Ministry and Youth Outreach. James was also a faithful member of Hebrew Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio.

James “Skip” Spruiel enjoyed music, dancing, attending concerts, and comedy shows. He especially cherished gathering with family and friends for cookouts and sharing meals together.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Yvonne; sons, Isaac Spruiel, Semaj Seward, and James Dungey; daughters, Shawna Dungey, Arlanders Reavish, Stephanie Penn, and Gabrielle Hawkins; 37 grandchildren; 8 great – grandchildren, brother Timothy Spruiel; brothers – in – law, Rev. Mahlon Dungey, Edwards Dungey, Richard Dungey, and Michael Dungey; and sisters, Cecile Spruiel, Vivian Johnson, and Myrtle Spruiel.
