Jessie Lee Tatum, age 81, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 10, 2021. He was born in Bay Spring, Mississippi on January 12,1940 to Wren Tatum and Genevia Page-Tatum. He was a Faithful Member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith for over 50 years where he sang in the Men’s Choir and faithfully attended Brotherhood. He was a sweetly saved and God-fearing man who loved God and his family and friends with all of his heart. He was simply a rare jewel as a husband to the love of his life …his bride of 33 years… Betty Tatum. They both wanted for nothing because they took excellent care of each other. They did everything together, and even shared the same birthday. When you saw one, you saw the other. He was a phenomenal father who poured love and kindness into his children, a wonderful grandfather (lovingly called “Papa”), a “hero” as a brother, and a one-of-a-kind friend. He absolutely loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army where he received an Honorable Discharge for serving our country. He was a hard-working and dedicated employee at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) for 29 years and the City of Columbus for nearly 20 years, not missing one day of work while working at both jobs – now that’s a strong work ethic at its best! His bright and warm smile, loving, kind, and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends, and everyone who knew him. We’ll forever cherish the great memories and the three words he would say every time we would see him, which is “God is good!”
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Betty Tatum; sons Michael (Christina) Tatum and Stefan Patterson; daughters Maria (Marcus) Jarrett, Brenda Littleton, and Gail (Danny) Graves; brothers Jerry (Mary) Tatum, Tommy Tatum of Columbus, Ohio, and Rickey Tatum of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nephews, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; brothers/sisters-in-laws; family, friends, and Brothers-in-Christ Ron (Rosie) Ryles and John Drakeford.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wren Tatum and Genevia Page-Tatum; son Mark Littleton; brother Willie (W.T.) Tatum; sisters Lula Tatum and Dorothy Jean Watkins.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15
