Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Jordan Bible Church, 1825 Woodland Avenue. Columbus, OH 43219. Internment: Evergreen Burial Park.

Deacon Joseph Leroy Woods, Jr.

November 16, 1954 - April 14, 2024

Deacon Joseph "Joe" Leroy Woods, Jr. was born to Deacon Joseph C. Woods, Sr. and Examinia Woods on November 16, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio. He Received his education in the Columbus Publics school system, where he attended Linden McKinley High School. He also attended North Adult Night School where he graduated. He further is education at Ohio States University received his degree as a Certified HVAC Engineer. He also continued his education by studying music of all kinds.

Joseph Enjoyed his Job of 30 years at, Ohio State University as a Certified HVAC Engineer. He has many accomplishments working there and retired. He also loved working beside his father and brother at his father's business, “BiBBO Shoe Repair Shop". He shared his knowledge with his children.

Joseph was a loyal member of the Motown/R&B band called “The Imposers” where he enjoyed playing as a teenager. Pattie Griffin music was one of his favorite.  Joseph also enjoyed playing Quartet Music. He Loved playing and singing with his Father and brothers in “The Sensational Keys of Harmony”. He also shared his gifts with other groups of the Columbus Quartet. He was a member of “The Five Star Harmonizers, Anointed Sons of God, and Dynamic Sons of Praise through the years. He received an Award of Achievement for 25 years of service with the North/South reunion. Joseph's big heart gave back by teaching, helping, and inspiring young singers and musicians. He always had a kind and encouraging word to give them.

Joseph grew up at 7th Ave Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Emmett Moore, Jr.. He later Joined Jordan Bible Church under the leadership of Wanye T. Lee, Jr. were God elevated him to Deacon Woods. God then Place in his heart to join Praise Temple Community Church under the leadership of Dr. Sammie Dixson where he was The Minister of Music until the Lord called him home. He loved his church family. He loves helping and blessing people. He was a Founder and Organizer of “Open Mic Ministry with his Lovely Wife, Cynthia.

Joseph loved family time. He loved to tell stories, cook on the grill, watch the kids play and laugh. It brought him so much joy. Singing songs with his family and playing games with his grandchildren.

Joseph went home to be with the Lord on Sunday April 14, 2024, at OSU James Caner Center.

He is preceded in death by his mother Examinia Woods, and Maternal grandparents Herman Battle and Leola Street-Smith. Paternal Grand Parents Phelton and Rosie Lee Woods. Parents in Law Samuel and Martha Jamar. Brothers Wayne (Kinnetha) Woods, Gene (Annette) Woods, and Pastor Darryl Woods. Sister-in-Law Sharon Wilson Grandson Samuel L Owens Jr., and Nieces Darian Woods.

Joseph leaves to cherish his life and memories with his wife of 26th years Deaconess Cynthia "Poochie" Woods. Father Deacon Joseph C Woods Sr., Daughter Minister Katrina (Minister Larry) Edwards, Sons Minister Joseph L. Woods, II, Pastor Reginald (Quintele) Woods, Jordan (Staciána) Woods, Step-sons Larry (Shevon) Owens Jr, Samuel Owens, Goddaughter Iesha Starks, Grandchildren Reginald (Reggie) Woods Jr., Landon Owens, Braxton Woods. Grandchildren he called his own Arscola, Jeffery, Tyler, Amber, Janea, and Zaza. Sister Debra Richards, Linda (Emmanuel) Bozeman and Tracie (Les) Sledge. Brother-in-Laws Phillip Jamar, James Jamar, Willie Wilson. Sister-in-Law Angeline Jamar. Bonus Daughter in Love Marion Scales and Genell Hudson, Former Wife and Mother of his first three children (Christal Woods): along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was very soft-spoken with a very big heart. He was serious about his Wife, Children, Family, Church, and Music.  Joseph's beautiful smile, and big heart will be missed. We have lost a wonderful big-hearted soul on earth, but Heaven has gained a new songbird and guitar player.
