In Loving Memory of Joy
Joy Lynn Harris, aged 63, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on July 21, 2024, at 2:10p at The Ohio State Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital. Born on June 15, 1961, in Columbus, she was the youngest of daughter & six of seven children. Joy was a proud alumna of East High School and The Mighty Marching Tigers.
Joy's life was marked by her vibrant and resilient spirit. She was the life of any gathering, known for her fun and funny personality, coupled with a wild, caring, and brave heart. Her passion was evident in her love for her family, friends, and her favorite NFL team, The Pittsburgh Steelers. Joy loved where she lived, Capital Park. So much so it was the place of her first apartment and final residence. She had a profound love for music, particularly the classic R&B tunes of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and enjoyed attending & watching football games, often seen ringing her cowbell in support.
Her family was the cornerstone of her life. She leaves behind her daughters, Lasheba (David) Cooper, Asia Lynn Harris (Whoodie), and son, Quincey Deshawn Harris (Q). Joy was a beloved grandmother to Sarai (Shae), David Jr. (Dakey), Abigil Cooper (Abby), Raymond Mickens (Ray Ray), and Elijah Steele. Great-grandmother to Nylah Cooper (Nela) and Ava. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Lloyd (Celina) Abbington Sr., Howard (Chaplin Gloria) Hill. Special friends Joseph Clark (Joe) and Kenny Delco, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Daniel & Ethel Harris Sr., and her siblings, Gloria Hill, Celina Abbington, Delvina Harris, Debra Leeson, Daniel Harris Jr., and Brian Harris.
Joy's spiritual journey was significant to her. She was last baptized on this very day 32 years ago, August 2, 1992, at Living Faith Apostolic Church and attended Rhema Christian Center, where she found much solace and community.
