Joyce Ann “Cookie” Hopewell was born on June 15, 1941, to Mary Kiwanis Bayless in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the oldest of nine children.

Joyce worked at Radio Shack for over 30 years where she met her husband, Wilson Hopewell. She enjoyed playing her numbers and doing scratch-offs daily, going to Scioto Down Casino with her friends, cooking and baking delicious food for everyone, and taking trips with family and friends. Joyce was an active member of Unity Christian Fellowship Church for over 18 years where she served as a Deaconess and Head Church Mother for many years.

Joyce Hopewell departed this life on January 30, 2024, at the age of 82. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Wilson Hopewell, her mother Mary Kiwanis Mason, sisters: Linda Baker, and Carrie “Vernie” Mason-Draffen, and brothers John Bayless, Robert “LuLu” Bayless, and Donald Mason.

Her beautiful life will be cherished in the lives of her children: Sherry (George) Henry, and Regina Brown; eight grandchildren: Kevin (Tiana) Fisher, Kevin Fisher, Kyle Fisher, Guylan Henry, Gerrod Henry, and Getayia Henry, Shawn Ward, and Jayna Brown; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by her brother Larry (Marsha) Mason and sisters Brenda Kelsor, and Karen (Tony) Brown, cousin Chiquita Calloway, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Joyce was dearly loved by everyone she met and will be greatly missed. When you think about her, remember how exceptional her cooking was and how kind, thoughtful, and beautiful she was as a person.
