Joyce Diane (Walker) Myers was born on Tuesday, August 27, 1946, in Bedford, Virginia to William Walker and Clara (Hubbard) Walker. Joyce graduated East High School in Columbus Ohio. After high school, she attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio where she earned a degree in Accounting.
After graduating from Central State University, Joyce spent a brief time in the nursing profession prior to finding her true calling in the banking industry. At Bank One/Chase Bank, Joyce successfully worked her way into several positions of leadership and management; including Vice President of Cardholder Services. Following her tenure at Bank One/Chase, Joyce accepted a management position with National City/Huntington Bank. In February 1995, Joyce was awarded the corporation’s highest honor, the Excel Award for her outstanding performance. Joyce later join the Accounting department of Mount Carmel Hospital, where she would retire from in 2014.
Joyce was a life-long member at St. Philip Episcopal Church. Joyce actively served as a member of the Alter Guild, the Food Pantry, ushers, financial counters, and as the Vestry Secretary for 20 plus years.
Joyce’s hobbies included travel, live jazz performances, NASCAR, and good times spent with family and friends. Joyce was also a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. She enjoyed tailgating and attending Buckeye sporting events with friends.
Blessed with 73 years of age, our beloved Joyce departed this life on Sunday, January 26, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents, William Walker and Clara Walker; brother, Gene Walker; beloved sister, Gail Walker; and dear friend Fred Johnson. Joyce is survived by her loving son Jason Myers; grandchildren, Mistie (Deramichaeleous) Daniels, and Jordan Myers; great-grandchildren, DeShawn Morgan and Tyler Daniels; sister, Arlene Carter; brother, Michael Walker; nephews, William and Paul Carter; niece, Melody Walker; dear friends, Wade and Christine Franklin. She is also survived by a host of additional family members and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the St. Phillip’s Food Pantry in honor of Joyce Myers would be greatly appreciated.
Family will receive friends for a memorial service, Friday February 7, 2020 at 11:00 am. Service will be held at St. Philip Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43203.
