Karen Grace Obituary

Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 1480 Zettler Road, Columbus, OH 43227.

Karen Grace, Age 59, transitioned March 19th. 

A TIME TO BE BORN: Karen Lee (Higginbotham) Grace was born February 19, 1961 to Janet S. (Turner) Higginbotham and the late William L. Higginbotham in Charleston, West Virginia.  She departed this life on March 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

A TIME TO LEARN:  Karen Lee Grace attended East High School. She graduated with honors from Columbus State Community College, receiving degrees in both Medical Technology and Nursing.  She was a veteran of the United States Army and graduated with honors from the United States Army Academy of Health Sciences.

A TIME TO SOW:  Karen was baptized at New Salem Baptist Church in 1966, where she was an active member for many years.  She later attended First Church of God.  She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church at the time of her departing. Karen’s focus was God, family and community.  She was committed to her daily devotions, seeing what needs the family had so she could help, and serving her church in whatever capacity was needed.

A TIME TO LOVE:  During the summer of 1981, she met the love of her life, Terrence Grace, and they married September 4, 1990. They were married for nearly 30 years. Together they had two sons, Talion and Solomon Grace and daughter, Brooklynn Grace.

A TIME TO LABOR:  Karen started her professional career at the Ohio State University Hospital.  She served as a lab technician and a Registered Nurse.  She later served as Nurse Coordinator for the TB Clinic at the Columbus Health Department, a nurse at the Heinzerling Foundation and was currently employed as a nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for over 20 years.

A TIME OF MEMORY: Karen was a dedicated wife and supportive mother.  She was an active family member and a true friend to many.  She had a spirit of graciousness, compassion, mercy, and love that others could see her love for God. Her love was felt by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed by her family.

A TIME TO CHERISH: Karen is preceded in death by her father William L. Higginbotham, mother-in-law and father-in-law Frank and Betty Grace.  Survived by her beloved husband, Terrence Grace; sons Talion and Solomon Grace; daughter Brooklynn Grace; grandchild Rylee Joy Grace; mother Janet S. Higginbotham, brother Steven (Monique) Higginbotham, sisters Kay Soltero, Katina (Lyndon) Carr, aunts Josephine Higginbotham, Joyce Beckhon and uncle Stanley (Justine) Turner; brother-in-law Franklin (Ruth) Grace, sisters-in-law Kathleen Calloway and Priscilla Grace; 3 special cousins, Clara Diallo, Rev. Clarressa Thompson and Candace Beckhon; best friend Kimberly Sawyers Wilkins and Rosia White, along with a host of many other nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
