The Obituary


Kylon Doncree Charris Lamon Gray, was born on October 28, 2000, Columbus, Ohio to Keisha N. Russell and  Charris L. Gray.  God called him home on Thursday, August 28, 2025.


Kylon was educated in the Columbus City School System.  He attended the Downtown High School for Information Technology and at the same time he attended the Afrocentric Early College Highschool  in Columbus, Ohio.  Kylon made the Honor Roll from his sophomore year through his senior year;  He had a cumulative average of  3.2 on a 4.0 scale.  Not only did he excel in his academic pursuits, but he also played basketball.  Kylon also attended Columbus State Community College.


Kylon publicly confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at the age of twelve years old.  On November 4, 2012, he was baptized in the name of  the Father and of the son and the Holy Spirit becoming a full member of the Union Grove Baptist Church under the Pastoral Leadership of Rev. Dr. Henry L. Johnson III.


Kylon was a devoted worker in the church. He was a member of the Union Grove Baptist Church Hands for Christ Puppet Ministry under the leadership of Mrs. Kathy D. Johnson and  Langston Hatch.  In this ministry, he and his teammates had the opportunity to travel and compete with other peers in their age group.  Kylon loved this ministry and created a special lifetime friendship with his puppeteer team members.


Kylon was an Usher, a Young David, he was on the Dean’s list, and he participated on church programs as a presider, scripture reader, offering a prayer, giving words of encouragement or during whatever was necessary to be a servant of God. 


Kylon served as a Young David  and Junior Laymen at Union Grove under the Supervision of Deacon Michael Whitlow.  He was also involved with the Young David’s and Junior Laymen in the Eastern Union Baptist Association and the Ohio Baptist General Convention holding significant offices. Kylon competed in the EUMBA and OBGC Bible Bowl winning first place. This allowed Kylon to participate in the National Baptist Convention USA Inc. Bible Bowl in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he won third place. 


Kylon was always respectful, he had a warm, kind, loving, gentle spirit. He loved his parents, siblings and Grandparents greatly and he was always willing to help them and others. He was raised in love, and he showed it to everyone who approached him.


Kylon leaves to cherish his memories:  Mother, Keisha N. Russell;  Brother, Keandre’ Russell;  Son, Ky’Aire Gray; Father, Charris Lamon Gray; Sisters, Taayana Gray and Jaziah Gray; Grandparents: Mark and Stephanie Coles, John and Tonya Russell, James and Toni Williams; and a host of  aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
