LaKayla Willis, 27, was born on June 25, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, to LaShawna Willis and the late Ryon Petty. LaKayla Willis passed away far too soon, on Monday, March 17, 2025.
LaKayla was a graduate of Eastmoor Academy and an alumnus of Central State University. While at Eastmoor Academy, she was a cheerleader and a member of the drill team. While at Central State, she was Co-Captain and Captain of the Marauders Cheerleaders. Growing up, she also cheered for the Eastland Vikings, Cheer Center, and Matrix All Stars, competing across the country.
LaKayla was also an exceptional mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend. She was always there for her loved ones, offering support, encouragement, and her trademark warmth. Her caring nature and selfless acts made her an indispensable presence in their lives. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her love for cooking, and her unwavering support during difficult times.
LaKayla Willis is predeceased by her father, Ryon Petty, and her grandfather, Terry Petty Sr. LaKayla leaves to cherish her memories her son, Kingston; her loving mother, LaShawna Willis (Todd McCoy); her brothers, Lamont Fields, Keon Turner, and Ryon Petty Jr.; her sisters, Toni Willis (Reginald Leach) and Jada Swan. Her supportive maternal grandmother, Rosa Willis; her grandfather, Steven (Amanda) Pearson; and her paternal grandmother, Deborah Petty. Her Aunts Autumn (Leslie) Campbell, Bethany Petty, Sherell Newton, Jobina, Danielle, Stevie Lynn Pearson, and Terella Stephens. Her very special Uncle/Dad, Antonio Willis, and special cousins, Nashun Willis and Tathyanna Moberly. Uncles, Nakue Willis, Damion, Carter, Stephon Pearson, and Terry Petty Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family.
