Calling Hours (only 10 at a time), Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at White's Funeral Home Chapel. Private Family Service (50 maximum) at 11:00 a.m., tickets are required for entry. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estate. Services will be live streamed. Family will receive flowers at the funeral home.
Luther Henry Barnes Jr. “Junie” age 87 went home to be with our Lord and Savior on May 2, 2021, at his beloved Daughter’s residence after a brief illness.
Luther Henry Barnes Jr. affectionately known as “Junie,” was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 9, 1934 to Jessie Mae Walker and Luther Henry Barnes Sr. He was the only child within this union.
Luther was educated in the Columbus Public Schools System and attended East High School. He loved playing and watching basketball, dancing, singing, laughing, listening to music and “having a good time.” He made up silly songs and crazy nicknames for people that still use them! He also participated in the East High School Alumni breakfast gathering.
At an early age, Luther attended and joined Shiloh Baptist Church with his Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Uncle and Cousins.
Luther was very talented and skilled in any type of mechanical repair. He was a certified Maintenance Mechanic and Electrician. He worked mostly with heavy machinery but he could repair anything around the house. He retired from the American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO). He was a Foreman and Labor Union President. He was also employed with Federal Glass and Ross Laboratories.
Luther is preceded in death by his Mother, Jessie Mae Walker-Davis, Father, Luther Henry Barnes Sr., Wife, Muriel Lucille Lewis-Barnes, Daughter, Carlittia Maria Bryant, Son, Keith Moore, Grandmother, Jessie Walker, Great Grandson, Marshawn Barnes, Aunts, Naomi Walker and Annabelle Gardner, Uncle, Charles “Buddy” Walker II., Cousins, Diane, Charles Jr III, and Jeanine Walker, Leslie Joseph and Barbara Calhoun, Sister-in-law, Norma Harris-Watkins.
Luther leaves to cherish his memories, Daughters, Tracey, Kelley, Cortney and Jennifer Barnes, Son, Shawn Barnes, Stepdaughter, Michelle (Charles) McMillon, Stepson, Darvyn Lewis, Grandchildren, Cieara Barnes “Moon Face,” Michael Lewis, Jazmine Whiteside, Spencer Hillman, Matthew Lewis, Justin Williamson, Tre Pendergrass, Olivia and Alexia Barnes, Chawanna and Sherette Bryant, Cousins, Deborah McNeal, Maurice Walker, Monica “Penny” Poole, Doncurtis Calhoun, Kevin (Miho) Joyce, Sister-in-law Sharon Hawkins, Brother-in-law, William Watkins, 10 great grandchildren, Stepsisters, Renelda and Carra Barnes, Special friend Ann Scott, Dear friends Carlos Toomer, Phillip Brown (Barber), Otis Grant, Lester Finney and Carlton Allen, many other relatives and friends.
